a blog rebranding update

So, after months of weighing the pros and cons of rebranding this little blog, and deciding against it I don’t know how many times, I thought I’d give you all a little update!

Here goes…

It’s happening!

Like legitimately happening.

The decision wasn’t an easy one. Not.by.alongshot. Actually, it was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make.

So I waited, and waited, and waited for a sign–and then one day a couple of weeks ago, it came to me.

An idea–the idea–that made the rebranding feel right.

I immediately started playing around with new logos and fonts. Since then, my best friend Katie has seen at least one hundred variations of the blog’s evolving new look. She’s a saint–a saint with style. I also purchased a new theme and began hunting for a developer to handle the migration. Oh yeah and those four written pages of customizations. I even researched username availability for my Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, Google+ and Facebook accounts. And last night, as I wrote this post, I completed the gut-wrenching process of switching them all.

I know. It’s a little sad, isn’t it? Well, maybe bittersweet is a better word for it.

But you see, these days I eat, breathe and sleep nutrition. Since starting this little blog my first semester of grad school, I’ve earned a Master’s degree, become a Registered Dietitian and by some small miracle, landed my dream job. Nutrition is now a part of who I am, what I love doing every day. I know that will always shine through no matter where my little piece of the internet lives, which is why I’m okay with letting go.

I absolutely adore nutritionella–the brand, the blog, but most of all, YOU!  Because YOU, my regular readers, blog buddies, friends, family and my darling husband (who deserves way more credit than I ever give him) have helped it grow into what it’s become.

But I want you to know you’re also a part of this blog’s evolution. In fact, after having that “Aha!” moment a couple of weeks ago, it was rereading your comments in my first rebranding post that helped me overcome the fear of change and move forward.

So, it’s time–and I’m so grateful to know you’re behind me! I seriously can’t thank you enough. I’m hoping to have the rebrand complete some time over the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned!

Blog rebranding: Ever done it? Thought about it? I’m actually still kind of in shock it’s happening. I mean, it’s like waking up one day and, after 3 years, deciding to rename your child. Or your pet. Not that I’ve ever done that but right now it sure feels that way!

P.S. That photo? My last Instagram as nutritionella. And those glasses? An early Valentine from my Dad. What can I say, he just gets me. Oh and for those of you who missed the update, he’s doing much, much better!

P.P.S. I forgot to mention this. If you were following me on social media before, you still are! Just use @ellepennerRD to find me on Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter from now on. I updated the blog Google+ page name and the blog’s Facebook URL but the official page change requests will take a couple of weeks.

Ciao belle!

  • Hello!
Just about to go through a re-branding on our blog and wondered – did you secure the instagram handle in advance, and then when you were ready to switch delete that account so the handle/url is available again and then quickly switch your existing account to that handle?
Or did you just do it all at once and just hope no one took it until you made that move?
    Thanks!

    Jenna

  • Way to go Elle! At the end of the day, your readers are going to follow your blog (even if it’s a new one) because they like YOU! I’m glad you decided to follow your instinct :) Can’t wait to see the new brand!

  • I’m really looking forward to the new branding! It’s a great idea. I myself am about to update my blog, however, not change the name. :) I’m really looking forward to my update as well as yours! Glad you took the plunge.

  • I’m such a fan of Nutritionella, but I know according to elle is going to be phenomenal. Can’t wait to see everything when it’s all finished.

  • congratulations! i have no doubt the new blog will be just as stylish and sassy as nutritionella. can’t wait to see what you’ve been working on!

  • Congrats, Elle! I can’t wait to see the new look. I enjoy your writing style whether it’s nutrition-focused or not, but I hope we still get some of your yummy recipes here and there! I’ve been thinking about a rebrand, but haven’t found a good way to make it work yet. Still searching for that inspiration! Good luck with everything!

  • Congrats, Elle! I can’t wait to see the new blog — I’m sure it will be just as great as Nutritionella. Best of luck!

  • Good for you! I’m actually contemplating re-branding my blog since it’s only a year old…so now would be the time to do it! I kind of want to incorporate my design portfolio as well, but I feel like it would be weird to have a blog that’s half healthy living blog and half graphic design. Decisions!

    • I’m a wannabe designer so I may be biased but I think sharing your portfolio would be great! It would set your healthy lifestyle blog apart from others – which is why I love the blogs I follow. They’re different from what you might expect.

  • You go girl! I am actually starting that process this afternoon…I’m excited, nervous, but ready to take She Rocks Fitness to the next level and this is how it is going to happen. So excited to see the outcome! XOXO

    • AW! Thanks Hibba. Hopefully the next blog will be so fabulous you won’t miss nutritionella too much! :)

    • Agree. It’s scary, and fun, and exciting. I can’t wait to see them either! For the first time I’m letting developers do 100% of the work… #nervous

  • This is exciting Elle! I like that you’re going to go for it despite it being a huge change and it being kind of scary! :D You give me hope because I’ve started my blog during my first semester of grad school and it definitely has its ups and downs (: thank you for the inspiration!
