You guys know oatmeal is a big time breakfast favorite of mine. It’s warm, filling and can make a chilly winter morning slightly more bearable.

I love them sweetened up with egg nog, maple syrup, or a drizzle of honey, but I recently discovered oats make a great whole grain base for a savory breakfast, too. This doesn’t shock me though–everything is better topped with an egg, cheese and a sprinkle of bacon, is it not?

IMHO, oatmeal’s hearty texture complements the egg, cheese and cured meat combo as well as any slice of avocado toast on the planet.

This breakfast packs a whopping 23 grams of protein–over one third of that coming from milk which adds serious staying power to this hearty morning meal. One cup of milk contains 8 grams of protein, which our muscles need to grow, repair and recover, especially after a tough workout.

Another reason I love this combo? Savory oatmeal also makes a delicious and satisfying dinner, too–perfect for busy weeknights or a quick and inexpensive single girl supper.
